Founded in 1996 Istanbul Bilgi University (BİLGİ) has the motto "Learning not for school but for life" (Non scholae sed vitae discimus). With almost 1.000 academics, BİLGİ currently has close to 20.000 students and more than 22.000 alumni. As an English medium institution, BİLGİ offers more than 150 programs in its faculties of Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Communication, Law, Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Engineering in addition to its vocational and professional schools, and institutes.
Being the only member in Turkey of Laureate International Universities network since 2006, BİLGİ has been a part of world’s largest university network comprising more than 29 countries from the US to China and 850.000 students all around the world. By this mean, BİLGİ students are also students of 80 institutions all around the world. Through international partnerships and exchange agreements, BİLGİ has also become a destination for international students. Therefore BİLGİ students have ‘real international experience’ whether they stay on campus or study abroad.
The meeting venue is santralistanbul, a project led by Istanbul Bilgi University, involving the conversion of the first power station built in Istanbul during the Ottoman period - Silahtaraga Power Plant - into a Museum of Contemporary Arts, a Museum of Energy, and a cultural and educational centre. santralistanbul is situated in the heart of the city at the upper end of the Golden Horn.
